Aggressive meets supernaked with this ideal blend of sporty performance and everyday versatility. Featuring next-level technology and a strong 649cc engine, the Z650L SE naked sportbike is a compact middleweight without equal in the Learner Approved naked motorcycle category.
A strong, torquey engine and lightweight chassis contribute to the Z650L SE motorcycle’s sporty performance and versatility.
Liquid-cooled, DOHC, 8-valve 649 cm³ Parallel Twin with fuel injection delivers smooth, responsive performance, especially in the low and medium rpm ranges. The strong low-end focus lends itself to sporty riding, but also translates to rider-friendly power characteristics that facilitate control and inspire confidence in new riders.
A number of changes to the intake and exhaust system components were made to ensure that Euro4 emissions regulations are cleared, and offer an increase in mid-range torque while maintaining the power of the previous model. Increased catalyser volume contributes to cleaner emissions. The increased catalyser volume and revised silencer layout enabled a shorter silencer. Likewise, the exhaust pipe length (shorter) and shape were also optimised to suit the changes.
Dunlop Sportmax Roadsport 2 tyres—made of high-performance rubber—boost handling and provide optimum grip.
The sharp Z pattern of the Z650L SE taillight (brake light) delivers a bold statement every time it lights up.
The sharp angles of the cowl, chin spoiler and meter cover were made to give the bike an aggressive presence while wide shrouds boast a muscular appearance. An LED headlamp adds a distinct high-tech note.
An Assist and Slipper clutch provides a lighter feel at the lever and a back-torque limiting function that helps prevent rear-wheel hop during more aggressive downshifts.
Horizontal Back-link rear suspension offers a progressive character. Compared to link-less type suspension, it delivers a better balance of sporty performance and ride comfort. Rear suspension positions the shock unit and linkage above the swingarm. This arrangement contributes to mass centralisation, while ensuring that the suspension is located far enough from the exhaust that operation is not affected by heat.
All-digital TFT (thin-film transistor) color instrumentation gives the cockpit a high-tech, high-grade appearance and visibility. The screen’s background color is selectable (black or white), and screen brightness adjusts automatically to suit available light.
Display functions include: digital speedometer, digital bar-style tachometer, gear position indicator, shift lamp, fuel gauge, odometer, dual trip meters, current and average fuel consumption, remaining range, average speed, total time, coolant temperature, clock, battery voltage, Kawasaki service reminder, oil change reminder and the Kawasaki Economical Riding Indicator.
One of the key components realising Z650L’s light weight (noticeable as soon as the bike is lifted off its side-stand), the lightweight frame weighs only 15 kg and contributes significantly to the bike’s light, nimble handling. Components of the high-tensile steel trellis frame follow the ideal pipe line. The lines of the frame were made as straight as possible, and when bends were necessary their angles were made as small as possible, resulting in a design that disperses stress extremely well.
Bluetooth Smartphone Connectivity (using RIDEOLOGY THE APP*) connects you with your bike like never before, allowing you to view vehicle info, riding log, phone notifications, and general settings.
Sugomi – a design philosophy that integrates aggressive lines with minimalist bodywork to draw attention to functional beauty.
Ergonomics have a big influence on agile handling. The rider triangle places the rider “in” rather than “on top of” the bike for a feeling of confident connected handling.
The overall light weight of the Z650L SE comes thanks to a lightweight trellis frame with a low center of gravity for light handling and confident low-speed maneuvering.
Low seat height and tapered seat shape create easy foot placement at stops while the upright seating provides a commanding ride position, giving the rider heads-up visibility for a confident riding experience. Superior riding comfort extends to the passenger with thick urethane and wide sides for great padding and support.
For added comfort, both clutch and brake levers are 5-way adjustable to accommodate a variety of hand sizes.
From its front cowl adorned with meter cover to its compact tail cowl, the Z650L’s head-turning design exudes a functional beauty. Complementing sugomi design elements (crouching stance, low-positioned head and upswept tail) that give it an instantly recognisable silhouette, its condensed appearance is emphasised by slim, close-fitting bodywork designed to give the bike a light, nimble image that reflects its sporty performance.
Dual 300 mm front petal disc brakes and 220 mm rear petal disc look great and deliver plenty of braking power while contributing to the bikes sporty image. Dual-piston front calipers, master cylinder and brake pads offer superb brake touch and control. In addition to the very effective petal disc brakes, customers looking for an added degree of reassuring braking performance are advised that the Z650L has standard front and rear ABS braking systems.
The new 4.3” all-digital TFT colour instrumentation – a Kawasaki first in the 650cc class – gives the cockpit a high-tech, high-grade appearance. The TFT (thin-film transistor) delivering a high level of visibility. The screen’s background colour is switchable (black or white), and screen brightness adjusts automatically to suit available light. The new meter also offers additional features unavailable on the previous model.
A Bluetooth chip built into the instrument panel enables riders to connect to their motorcycle wireless. Using the smartphone application “RIDEOLOGY THE APP,” a number of instrument functions can be accessed, contributing to an enhanced motorcycling experience.
Ensuring the Z650L is not mistaken for anything other than Kawasaki Supernaked when viewed from behind, its sharp LED taillight lights up in “Z” pattern, contributing to the sporty image and the strong Z identity.
